Carbon in Business Action Learning Sets - Journey to Net Zero

Journey to Net Zero - Planning and Decarbonization Strategies.

Chamber Low Carbon, in collaboration with UCLAN, is offering a series of six fully funded sustainability workshops for businesses in Burnley, Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Lancaster, Pendle and Preston.

This is the fourth in a series of sustainability workshops, each session will cover different topics each time.

Journey to net zero

Embarking on a business journey to net zero is a commendable and impactful decision. To pave the way for success, consider these key components:

Commitment and Planning

  • Internal buy-in: Secure leadership and staff commitment to long-term net zero goals.
  • Target setting: Establish science-based emissions reduction targets aligned with the SBTi or other credible frameworks.
  • Baseline and Scope: Measure your current footprint across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 (direct, indirect, and value chain emissions).

Decarbonization Strategies

  • Operational efficiencies: Optimise processes, energy use, and coordination to reduce emissions within your own operations.
  • Renewable energy: Transition to renewable energy sources, on-site generation, and green power contracts.
  • Resource management: Minimise waste, implement circular economy principles, and procure sustainably.
  • Low-carbon technologies: Invest in clean tech solutions, carbon capture and storage, and innovative emission reduction methods.

Engagement and Collaboration

  • Engage suppliers and partners: Collaborate with upstream and downstream stakeholders to reduce emissions across your value chain.
  • Employee education and empowerment: Train staff on sustainability practices and involve them in decision-making.
  • Transparency and communication: Regularly report progress, engage stakeholders, and address concerns with transparency.

Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and evaluate progress: Regularly track performance against targets and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Embrace innovation: Stay up to date on emerging technologies and implement those that align with your goals.
  • Adapt and respond: Be prepared to adjust your approach based on changing circumstances and regulations.

Remember, the journey to net zero is a marathon, not a sprint. Take it step-by-step, celebrate milestones, and be prepared to adapt your approach as you learn and progress. By prioritizing commitment, action, and collaboration, you can build a resilient and sustainable future for your business and contribute to a healthier planet.

Lunch will be provided.
